This is the time of year that so many people get excited about “the holidays”, but honestly even the “the holidays” is not a true statement, as this is really the CHRISTmas season. Unfortunately, the real reason for the season seems to be less and less part of “the season” each year. This season is really about the birth of Christ, even if he was not born in December, though there is less about Him in the season each year.
There are plenty out there that will talk about the greater need for Christ in Christmas, so I will leave those posts / comments / stories and pieces to them. Today, I want to look at the bigger picture of Christ birth, the eternal one.
As we move toward Christmas day, I want to remind everyone that the earthly things / presents that we get each Christmas are not eternal. As we look at the manger, we must remember to see the Heavenly host not just the baby. Honestly, Christ’s birth was merely the starting point for His earthly journey that eventually lead to His death on the cross. His resurrection after that death, is what ultimately leads us to have the opportunity (if we decided to follow Him) to join Him in Heaven eternally.
This fallen world was not / is not Christ’s real home, it was merely the place He came to achieve the goal of cruxificiation and resurrection to allow us access to Heaven. Ultimately this fallen earth is not the home of anyone as the Bible is clear that all will spend eternity in either Heaven or Hell (both which are real places, neither of which resemble the current state of Earth).
So, today, tomorrow, this week, next week, etc I just want to ask each person who reads this post to take a few minutes and not think about trees, lights, snow, Santa, presents, or even a baby in a stable, or shepherds in a field, but about eternity. Eternity is really what this life is about. Christmas is a great time to not just think about the birth of Christ but also about His heavenly home. He did not come just to be born, or to just die. He came to be reborn and to pay the sacrifice of our sins eternally. The greatest Christmas gift you can ever get does not come out of a box via a loved one, but out of a tomb via the cross.
I pray that you know where your Heavenly home will be and that you are more focused on it then presents under a tree today.
