New Ansel Adams Prints?

by 53X11 on July 28, 2010

CNN.com has a nice piece up about some new Ansel Adams prints that may (big MAY) have been discovered. It seems that a guy bought some glass negatives at a yard sale, kept them around for a few years (under his pool table), and then realized they may be pretty valuable. A LA art dealers [...]

Cheater, cheater

by 53X11 on July 8, 2010

The NY Times had an article on the trends / steps in high school and college – focusing on Central Florida University and turnitin.com – to stop cheating (full story here). Since I have not seen a classroom in almost 20 years this kind of stuff was really interesting to me. I knew cheating was [...]

30 second theories

by 53X11 on July 8, 2010

The Daily Mail had a nice post up on June 26th that summarized 10 theories (Quantum Field Theory and The Finite Universe just to name two) in just a few paragraphs. This is a nice way to get a jump start on understanding some relatively complex ideas. Even if you don’t agree with, or even [...]

Today, I logged into Facebook (FB) to only be offered the following – Understand I don’t play trumpet, I don’t have anything about Trumpet’s on my facebook page, heck I am not even sure I have even said the word trumpet out loud since going to a concert where a friend’s girlfriend played trumpet in [...]

Proximity Charging

by 53X11 on March 28, 2010

Looks like someone (the Korean’s in this case) has developed a means of proximity charging (charging batteries without cables) in a larger scale then cell phone batteries. In this case it is a trolley at the zoo, but such a method could really be interesting as it reduces battery size and does not requires stopping. [...]

by 53X11 on March 26, 2010

Well the news came out today – 24 has been cancelled after this season (it’s ninth). FOX is cancelling it due to shrinking ratings and NBC passed on picking it up. Full story at the New York Times here. I will miss 24 and I am sad to see it go. Nothing left on TV [...]

Human Target Reboot

by 53X11 on February 23, 2010

On the day when there are stories everywhere (NY Times story here) about a mint 1938 Action Comics #1 (the one which introduced Superman) selling for $1 million dollars, I thought some readers may also be interested in a piece I found at Popmatters about the reboot of the 70′s comic Human Target (i.e. Christopher [...]

The Buick Questor

by 53X11 on January 24, 2010

I saw a ad for the Buick Questor in 1983 and have thought it was cool every sense. It had a voice activated telephone, navigation, lazer key’s, wireless gargage door control, and numerous other things that we think are cool today. The thing had 14 computers on it, heck that is more then how many [...]

by 53X11 on January 17, 2010

Well my return to “regular blogging” has not been as successful as I would have hoped. Over the last six weeks or so I have fought a terrible cold and exhaustion while working WAY too much. The good news is I believe God is opening a door for the work situation to change soon. That [...]

Missing Brands in 2010

by 53X11 on December 20, 2009

CNN Money has a nice piece discussing eight brands that disappeared in 2009 (or that their 2010 demise was announced in 2009) that they will miss. Though I will not miss Home Depot’s EXPO or Pontaic or Saturn or Max Factor, like them I will miss Circuit City retail stores, and the legacy of both [...]

Disgusting Pepsi Flavors

by 53X11 on October 6, 2009

Oobject has a poll going about the 13th most disgusting flavors of Pepsi ever. Personally I liked Clear Pepsi (ALOT) and Pepsi Summer Blend. I even tried the Holiday Spice Pepsi once and it was not terrible. Bottom line, give this poll a look but I personally disagree with some the flavors they included in [...]
